2520: The Tavern with class

The Tavern with class

Tavern is fancy. This establishment is in Clemmons, and if you are ever out that way, I suggest you stop in.

I went there on a Monday about 3 p.m., so I was treated to a quiet atmosphere. When you walk into the restaurant, you notice all of the dark accents inside. There are dark tables, dark walls and dark booths. All of the dark is broken up by little lights throughout the restaurant making it feel quite romantic.

The menu is diverse. I went there during lunch, so I saw their lunch menu. Some items that caught my eye on the appetizer menu were the lobster nachos and the royal Thai shrimp. They also have more traditional starters like wings and calamari.

They have a sandwich called the crab melt that I do look forward to trying the next time I come here. The crab is in between Texas Toast, and it has bacon, cream cheese and Havarti cheese. Their other interesting sandwiches are the portabella and cheese hoagie, Texas club and the chicken lavish.

Their entrees are exciting. Even for lunch, Tavern 2520 gives customers a lot of options. You can get a marinated chicken breast or a ground beef steak, or you can opt for various seafood like salmon, Ahi tuna, flounder or a shrimp skewer. All options come with one side, and they are under $10.

The “Chef’s Creation” portion of the menu had any and everything you could want. They have pastas such as chicken, shrimp and Greek. All three pastas are under $10. They have chicken teriyaki and Tavern chicken. The Tavern chicken is buttermilk fried chicken accompanied with ham, roasted tomatoes, cheeses, mashed potatoes and corn. They also have bourbon steak and salmon piccatta.

For my entrée, I had to decide between the grilled salmon with steamed broccoli or the southwest chicken. The southwest chicken was intriguing because it came with a potato cake, baja corn, avocado queso and mango salsa. I eventually settled on the salmon with steamed broccoli.

It was a good choice. Sometimes restaurants serve salmon that has an in tense

“fishy” taste to it, but Tavern 2520 has quality product. It came out very hot which tells me that it was freshly made, and the portion size was excellent. There was just enough on my plate that I left there feeling satisfied.

Although I did not eat dessert, I was tempted. They have a dessert item called the Chocolate Triad that piqued my interest. It is a dark chocolate cake, layers of chocolate mousse and butter cream, strawberries, toasted coconut, chocolate ganache and Ghirardelli white chocolate.

They have another item called Loukoumades that looked delicious. It is fried dough, cinnamon sugar and honey. Other dessert items included the Tavern brownie, peaches and cream and the berry cheesecake.

Tavern 2520 has a separate dinner menu as well as a brunch menu. They also cater to those who prefer glutenfree.

Tavern 2520 is an elegant establishment in Clemmons that serves unique, quality food and desserts at a reasonable price. It would be an ideal place to bring a date or to have a nice dinner with family and friends. !
