MONITORING THE ECONOMIC PULSE OF THE TRIAD BY JORDAN GREEN
Business openings: Greensboro up one, Winston-Salem even
If new business openings are a sign of economic revival, then there are signs of hope. Of course, business closings tend to be less trumpeted, so it’s a tougher proposition to track the net change.
Gander Mountain, the Minnesota-based outdoor supplies retailer, announced on Monday that it will open a new store on Hanes Mall Boulevard near the intersection of South Stratford Road and Interstate 40. The company describes itself as “the nation’s leading firearms retailer” and a purveyor of hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor lifestyle products. The store, which will be the fifth in the state, is expected to open in late 2012. Gander Mountain also has locations in Greensboro, Fayetteville and Mooresville.
Fiat of the Triad has relocated from a tent on Northpoint Boulevard in Winston-Salem to a new studio on West Wendover Avenue in Greensboro. The Triad dealership for the Italian economy car opened at its temporary location in Winston-Salem last October, and held its soft opening at the expanded West Wendover Avenue location on Aug. 15, Fiat Financial Specialist Lee Stephens said. The dealership plans to hold a grand opening in late September.
