New record store opens on Spring Garden Street

Hippo Records opened at the Shoppes at Lindley Park on Spring Garden Street in Greensboro on Sept. 4, but once owner Patrick Lemons gets a light-up sign installed he wants to have a proper opening.

Lemons said he conceived Hippo Records as a store that carries on the spirit of High Fidelity, the novel by British author Nick Hornby that was transported to Chicago for the 2000 John Cusack movie of the same name. The all-vinyl store carries music from the 1960s to the present, including rock, pop, jazz, country, bluegrass, metal, punk and hip hop, ranging from highly collectible discs up to $200 down to dollar records. Lemon said he has about 10 years of experience in the business and grew up in a family where vinyl was the only medium allowed. Hippo Records is located 2823-D Spring Garden St. in Greensboro. The store can be reached at 336.420.4871.
