A moped driver was killed in Greensboro this past weekend following a collision with another vehicle.

Greensboro police said that the accident took place about 11:40 p.m. Friday night. The driver of the moped was traveling in the 1400 block of West Lee Street when his moped collided with a Jeep Cherokee. Police said the moped driver was transported to Moses Cone Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was not injured.


A pawn shop in Greensboro was foiled for the most part when a trio of robbers couldn’t breech a gated door.

Police reported that three suspects entered Velazquez Pawn on Spring Garden Street about 6:30 p.m. Friday. Each would be robber was wearing a hooded sweatshirt that covered their head. One of the suspects approached the jewelry area, which is secured behind iron bars, and began shaking the gated door attempting to enter the secured area.

The manager displayed a handgun and the suspects ran from the business, but not before one of the robbers grabbed an I-phone on the way out.

Police arrested one of the robbers, a 20-year-old, in possession of the phone.


Two men at a home in Winston- Salem’s Buena Vista section reported to police last week that they were robbed after answering a doorbell.

Police arrived to discover one man was visiting the other, according to a press release, when someone rang the doorbell. The occupant opened the door to the residence and a suspect forced his way in to the house, in the 1700 block of Buena Vista Road. Police labeled the incident as robbery with a dangerous weapon, but no weapon description was provided.

Police said the suspect, described as a black male, “tall and muscular” and wearing a baseball cap, proceed to rob the two men of an undisclosed amount of money before he fled on foot.

No injuries were reported. !
