The best and worst of Triad police blotters, as compiled


A teenager who stole another person’s skateboard and backpack was apprehended by police just a short time after the robbery.

The juvenile victim told Winston- Salem police that he was walking in the 1300 block of Lockland Avenue on Sunday when approached by two teens. The robbers threatened him with a screwdriver and demanded his backpack and skateboard. A short time later, police spotted the suspects, a 17-year old and a 14-year old, near the scene of the crime. After a brief foot chase, police took the suspects into custody. A screwdriver, the backpack and skateboard were recovered. Police charged 17-year old Diego Rendon Garcia with common law robbery and resisting arrest.


A Greensboro woman was relieved of her cellular telephone in the vicinity of Park and Sullivan streets by a suspect brandishing a handgun. The victim had been in the area when a man, described as African American with short hair, a goatee and wearing both a black shirt and shorts, did rob her at gun point of her wallet and cell phone. Officers in the area of Franklin Boulevard observed a red Ford Taurus make an abrupt turn upon sighting the officers. The Taurus turned onto Naco Road, but officers stopped the vehicle, locating the stolen items inside. Police charged Marcus Antonio Hayes of Eastwood Avenue with armed robbery, in addition to other felony charges.


Winston-Salem police responded to Ziggy’s Music Hall early Monday morning when staff there reported a stabbing incident. Police arrived to find two people suffering cut wounds. A third person later arrived at Baptist Hospital suffering from a cut he said occurred at the club. Security staff said two men engaged in a fight near the Tavern bar. As staff reacted to the affray, one of the men slashed at the other with what witnesses believe to be a broken bottle.

One man suffered serious cuts to his neck and side, while a security guard sustained a serious injury to his finger.

The suspect fled from the club and was seen on security video fleeing through the parking lot. !
