INFANT DEATH ARREST

At approximately 5:50 p.m. on August 12, 2014, Emergency Medical Services personnel and officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department responded to 2850 Piedmont Circle on a reported medical emergency involving an unresponsive child.

Emergency Medical Services personnel immediately transported two year old Corey Joseph Plater to Brenner Children’s Hospital. He was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter. Detectives with the Winston-Salem Police Department assumed the investigation and determined that on the day in question; Corey Plater had been left in the care of two adults residing at 2850 Piedmont Circle. One of those adults was identified as Daryl Jerome Reed. At the time, Mr. Reed was in a dating relationship with a relative of the two year old child. In the months that followed, authorities continued their investigation into the death of Corey Plater. Authorities with the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and determined the manner of death to be Homicide. On December 30, 2014, detectives arrested Daryl Jerome Reed for First Degree Murder in connection with the death of Corey Plater. Mr. Reed was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center under no bond allowed. A court date of January 15, 2015 has been set in this matter. The death of Corey Plater marks the fifteenth homicide to occur in Winston-Salem in 2014. A total of fifteen homicides occurred in Winston- Salem in 2013.

MAN BOUND AND SHOT

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes reports on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at approximately 3:30 pm, deputies responded to 7301 Friendship Church Road in McLeansville on a report of a dead body inside the residence. Upon further investigation it was determined the deceased was the victim of a homicide. The victim has been identified as Jose Merced Huerta-Morales, Hispanic male, 36 years of age. The victim, Jose Merced Huerta-Morales, was found deceased by family members. Huerta-Morales was bound with tape and had been shot.

The investigation is still ongoing. !
