The death of a woman whose body was found in an abandoned home on E. Whittington Street has been classified as a homicide. Sonya Annette Buckner, 45, was found by police in an empty room in 405 E. Whittington St. at about 7:30 pm March 7 after Guilford Metro 9-1-1 received a call about a body in the home.
Preliminary findings from officials at the State Medical Examiners’ Office reveal that Buckner, who has no known address, died from significant blood loss caused by a laceration to her body. No one has been arrested in connection with her homicide. Detectives are continuing to investigate.
DRIVER STRIKES CHILD
A 10-year-old boy was killed moments after getting off a school bus in Winston-Salem when he was struck by an SUV in front of his home.
Police said the boy was walking in a grassy area along Wright Street when a 2004 Toyota RAV4 ran partially off the road and struck him. The driver continued a short distance before striking a tree and fence. The driver, identified as Imani Louis Blanche Stanley, 21, of Hemingway Street, exited the SUV and fled the scene, police said. The child was transported to Baptist Hospital where he died of his injuries. Stanley was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and felony hit and run.
RED ROOF ROBBERY
Police responded Sunday to the Red Roof Inn, located at 2101 W. Meadowview Rd. in reference to a robbery from person that had just occurred. The victim stated that he was confronted by the suspect, who demanded his money. He complied and left the area after the robbery to call police. He was not injured as a result of this incident.
While conducting the investigation, responding officers located the suspect at 2101 W. Meadowview Rd. 25 year old Keith Jordan II was arrested on scene and charged with Common Law Robbery and Resisting Arrest. Additionally, a second suspect was also identified and arrested, 25-year-old Sasha Baldwin was also charged with Common Law Robbery. !
