Council redistricting bill scheduled for Thursday
The legislative conference committee assigned to decide the fate of a bill to reshape the Greensboro City Council made subtle changes to the text before scheduling a floor vote for Thursday. The committee changes to HB 263 appear limited to giving the mayor a vote when deciding to hire or fire the city manager or city attorney. The original version of the bill gave the mayor no vote, except in the case of a tie. That, in addition to denying the mayor a veto, is maintained in the latest version. The new language also requires a vote of three-fourths of the council to spend money from the city’s fund balance. The bill is scheduled to be heard in the house on Thursday.
