DJ Currancy Full name: Curran Wertz Origins: The name is Curran, see? What I play: What don’t I play? Mainly hip hop, rock, E Hop and mash-ups, but I love dropping tracks that you forgot you knew. Catch me at: Club Oasis and Paddy’s Pub in Emerald Isle Upcoming shows: June 5 at Club Oasis, May 23 and every other following Saturday at Paddy’s Pub. Got in the game: I wish I remember the exact day, but it was my freshman year of college. Why I do it: The first college party I went to, the “DJ” had a 5 disc changer. That was unacceptable. I had known enough about DJs to know that he wasn’t one. Influences: Hip hop, the emotion of a positive party, any other DJ doing the damn thing, Serato, Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Q- bert and Jam Master Jay. I seriously can’t even think of all of them. First pro gig: Clubwise, it would be Sh-Boom’s in Winston-Salem from back in the day. I had been doing small parties for a while before that. Favorite technique: Dropping a capellas and flipping beats behind them. Also, quick mixes and transitions. Personal playlist: It would depend on my mood, I guess. I have K-Os and Anthony Hamilton in rotation right now. Normally, it is mixes of other DJs and club nights I have recorded and Daft Punk. Favorite albums: Outkast— Aquemini, Pink Floyd — The Wall, the Beatles — Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Camp Lo — Uptown Saturday Night, Daft Punk — Homework, K-Os — Joyful Rebellion Equipment: My painted Technic 1200s SM57, HP laptop and I just got a Korg Nanokey Website: www.djcurrancy.com or myspace.com/djcurrancy More: For info about bookings, rates and availability, contact currancy@gmail.com
