Full name: Trevor A. Bethel

DJ Handle: DJ BIG CUTTZ What it means: I’m a full time barber, so it works for both trades. Get it? Big Cuttz?

What I play: Hip hop, R&B, reggae, go-go, Baltimore house and old school soul music.

Catch me at: I play at the Renaissance Nightclub & Lounge on Saturday nights and Bentley’s on Fridays.

Upcoming shows: Bentley’s on Oct. 23, the Renaissance Oct. 24, Bennett College Hip-Hop Summit week on Oct. 28 and the luxurious Empire Room on Oct. 30 and 31.

Got in the game: I became a DJ in 2003.

Why I do it: I am a DJ because of my passionate musical background! Stemming from elementary, middle school and James B. Dudley Sr. High marching band and concluding with the NC A&T Marching Machine.

Influences: DJ Jam Master Jay, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Scratch, DJ Polo, DJ J-Flex.

First pro gig: My first professional gig was at the Greensboro Ballroom with long time friends Ignited Ent.

Favorite technique: Scratching and beat juggling

Personal playlist: I try to listen to everything that I don’t have to play in the club during the weekend so I can musically prepare my mind for the gigs that I have coming up.

Favorite albums: Notorious BIG — Ready to Die and Life After Death, Wu Tang Clan — Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers), Snoop Dogg — Doggystyle, Dr. Dre — The Chronic.

My gear: Two Technics turntables, Vestax PMC-05 Pro mixer, Serato Scratch Live and Apple laptop.
