DJ handle: DJ Ouroboros

What it means:

At first my style and stage name would change almost as often as one changes clothes. Ouroboros is the ancient alchemical symbol of a snake eating its own tail, representing the sense of something constantly re-creating itself, as well as the cyclic nature of the universe.

Real name: Ariel Arus

What I play: I used to play mostly psytrance, but I’ve been more recently known to play all sub-genres of electronic dance music.

Catch me at: Greensboro, most often at Club Orion Upcoming Shows: Scream! on Friday at Margny’s Night Club in Charlotte and Grimetime: Halloween on Saturday at Studio 99 in Winston-Salem.

Got in the game: I started DJing in the year of 2007.

Why I do it: For as long as I can remember I loved electronic music. As early as the age of 15, played around with programs such as Mixmeister and other loop-based audio production software. At 18, I decided to save up and get some old vinyl turntables because I was inspired by artists such as Mix Master Mike and DJ Qbert. However, it wasn’t until I went to my first rave when I was 19 that I realized that electronic music was something I seriously wanted to get into. Since then I was obsessed with the EDM sound and strove to contribute to the art in that scene.

Influences: DJ Qbert, Mix Master Mike, Grandmaster Flash, Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Infected Mushroom, Aphex Twin, Venetian Snares, Headhunterz, Noisecontrollers and many others.

First pro gig: My first actual gig was at a Halloween party on Oct. 16, 2009 at a bar formerly known as the Celtic Cafe in Winston- Salem.

Studio work: I started producing about a year or two after I got into DJing. However, I’m not satisfied enough with my production skills to officially release anything as of yet.

Favorite technique: If I had to pick one, it’d be loop rolling.

Signature mix: “Nobody Listens To Techno,” which can be found on soundcloud. com/ouroboros

Personal playlist: Though I enjoy all genres of music, I listen to electronic music even when I’m not in the club. I enjoy more metal or glitch influenced-music, such as Venetian Snares or Drumcorps.

Favorite Albums: Just a few off the top of my head: Daft Punk — Discovery, Terranoise — Cross Dimensional Feedback, Infected Mushroom — Vicious Delicious, Pendulum — Hold Your Colour, Venetian Snares — Rossz Csillag Alatt Született and Aphex Twin — Come To Daddy

My gear: I’ve used everything under the sun, but the gear I have now are a pair of Denon DN-S1200 CDJs, a Denon DN-X120 mixer, Traktor Scratch Pro and an Akai MPK mini MIDI controller.
