Dining for the Greenway: Downtown Greensboro Restaurant Week

Downtown Restaurant Week in Greensboro is in full swing and you have until Friday to check out some of the best that downtown restaurants have to offer.

Participating restaurants are partnering together to raise money for the Downtown Greenway, a planned four mile walking and biking trail in the city center. You’ll find multi-course price fix dinners for $20.18, a nod to the completion date of the greenway project. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Downtown Greenway.

Downtown Greenway Manager Dabney Sanders says the event really does more than support the development of the greenway. “With so many new places opening in the last year, we love this opportunity to showcase them.”

The idea was spearheaded by Nick Wyatt, owner of 1618 Downtown, 1618 Seafood Grille, and 1618 Wine Lounge, as a way to strengthen the downtown culinary community and give back to projects contributing to the development of Downtown Greensboro.

Seven restaurants are participating.

Maybe you can crawl to a few places in one night or make it a multiple day event. Some restaurants are offering the same entrée throughout the week and a few are changing it up. Let’s take a look at the menus, shall we?

B. CHRISTO- PHER’S: Slow Roasted short ribs with horseradish mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and red wine reduction. For dessert, homemade local peach cobbler and vanilla bean ice cream.

UNDERCURRENT is pulling out all the stops for folks to truly get a taste of what the restaurant has to offer. “I am extremely excited to be participating with such a great group of local downtown restaurants,” partner Wes Wheeler says. “It’s always a win/win when you can promote your business while also helping our downtown community.” Undercurrent will be serving a 3-course seasonal tasting menu (pictured) for lunch and dinner.

First Course: Roasted Poblano-Tomatillo Gazpacho, Pumpkin Seeds, Cilantro Crema

Second Course: Panko Breaded Joyce Farms Chicken, Green Guilford Mill Grits, French Beans, Green Tomato-Bacon Relish, Herb Buttermilk Cream

Third Course: Honey Green Tea Ice Cream, Lemon-Anise Cookies

1618 DOWNTOWN will be changing their dishes each night. All of them are great for sharing.

Wednesday 8/26: Any two pizzas with two 6oz draft beers

Thursday 8/27: Any two salads with two 3oz glasses of Rose

Friday 8/28: Two orders of wings


Co-owner Rhonda Fuller says patrons have a chance to have a little fun with their street food. “They’ll get to try 2 items

from the snack menu and 2 small plates for $20.18 and they can mix and match however they like.” Please note that this excludes specials.

LARUE Watch your food being made front and center at this French style restaurant. LaRue’s Chef Trey Bell will be featuring a tasting appetizer plate for 2 people for the Greenway price of $20.18.

MCCOUL’S PUBLIC HOUSE will be offering Seared Pork Tenderloin Medallions topped with Fresh Fig Chutney, Ginger Carrot Puree, Broccoli Raab & Lemon, Rosemary & Sea Salt Roasted Potatoes.
