Dixie Classic Fair Opens 2009 Competitive Entries

MORE THAN $225,000 AND SERIES OF COLORFUL RIBBONS AWARDED TO WINNERS

When the Dixie Classic Fair, the second largest agricultural Fair in North Carolina owned and operated by the City of Winston- Salem, opened entries for all competitive contests, people came out. As one of the main features for fairgoers, competitive entries range from vegetables and cattle to jewelry and wine. Contests typically draw more than 3,500 entrants and more than 25,000 exhibitors each year.

Among the competitions include decorated apples, pumpkins and potatoes; various breeds of beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, swine, poultry and pigeons; flower arrangements and plants; fine arts and crafts; written essays; decorated wreaths; and Christmas trees. The Great American Spam Championship Contest, the Hidden Valley Dressings Fresh Taste for the Family Contest and the 21 st annual “Homemade Ice Cream” Contest are among many others. For winners, a series of colorful ribbons and up to $225,000 are awarded. The following colors will be used to designate awards:

Champion – Royal Purple

Reserve Champion – Lavender

First Premium – Blue

Second Premium – Red

Third Premium – White

Fourth Premium – Pink

Fifth Premium – Yellow

Sixth Premium – Dark Green

Seventh Premium – Light Green

Eighth Premium – Brown

Ninth Premium – Gray

Tenth Premium and above – Light Blue
