After a tough week, sometimes you just really need Thursday to turn into Little Friday.

Thanks to the folks at The Deck in Jamestown, you ease into the weekend with special events on the first Thursday of each month now through the summer.

“We’re starting up on May 5 and we’ll be doing it every first Thursday through September,” owner Wade Gabel said. “We just wanted to have a networking event where people can get together socially, don’t have to wear their business clothes and can relax.”

Patrons can hang out inside at the bar and tables or make use of The Deck’s eclectic outdoors area for drinks, music and good times. If you haven’t been there before, The Deck is a lot like a mix between a great Key West outdoor bar and an event with that one old friend who used to throw the best parties. The décor is a bit of this and a bit of that, but it all works to make for an inviting atmosphere.

Each of the First Thursday events will feature live music, with Soul Central performing on May 5 with Jaxon Jill, Brothers Pearl and The Plaids to play in rotation at the later events. The events will also be partnered with local charity Susie’s Hope, which works to rescue and foster unwanted, neglected and abused animals.

“Foothills Brewery will also be doing a tap takeover each time,” Gabel said. “It’s a great chance to check out their brews.” The Deck does offer two full service bars as well, if you’d like something a bit harder than beer. A designated driver service is also available on site and if patrons present their receipt to the driver, The Deck will subsidize 25 percent of their cab fare.

Local food trucks are known to set up shop outside of The Deck on busy nights, providing a selection of food that’s as fun and eclectic as the place itself. Takeout orders from nearby restaurants are also often seen at The Deck.

Gabel opened The Deck about four years ago and it has become a popular nightspot for folks in the area. Nestled on Main Street in Jamestown, the place is open seven nights a week. On weekdays it runs from 5 pm until, with Friday night closing at 2 a.m. Saturday they open at noon and run until 2 a.m.

Sunday, Gabel said, is a great time to come by. Opening at 1 p.m., The Deck hosts cornhole tournaments those days. The tournaments are a blind draw format with 100 percent payout to the winners.

Live music is a staple of the club and you can expect to see some of the area’s finest bands perform throughout the summer. While the professionals take the stage on most weekends, and acoustic duos perform many other nights, Wednesday nights are always an open mic night.

It’s a great chance to take to the stage and do your best for a receptive crowd.

If you’d like to check out The Deck, just roam on down to 118 E. Main Street in Jamestown. Public parking is available in the evenings next door at New Bridge Bank and down the street at Mike’s Exxon. Do please note that the Stafford Square lot next door is a tow away zone.
