First date ideas for guys

FINE DINING

When it comes to first dates, the traditional choice is having dinner at a fine restaurant. Guys are encouraged to take their dates to a classy place with excellent food, and to be on their best behavior throughout the evening. If you’re not familiar with proper etiquette such as holding doors open, pulling out chairs and standing up when your date goes to the ladies room, do the research. It’s a wise investment of time and energy. And remember, most women are averse to being invited to coffee on a first date. It gives the impression that you’re a cheapskate.

ROWBOAT

Enjoying the great outdoors and getting lots of one-on-one time with your sweetie is the greatest benefit of taking your date out on the lake in a rowboat. A rowboat on a lake evokes scenes from romantic novels and Hollywood movies. The only downside: If the date isn’t going well, you’re kind of stuck. You simply have to grin and bear it.

THE NC ZOO

For a first date that’s both peaceful and educational, you can’t beat the NC Zoo in Asheboro. The animal attractions offer a beautiful backdrop as you and your date get to know each other in a family-friendly setting.

HISTORIC TOUR

Nearly every city has an historic walking tour. The educational and romantic aspects blend perfectly in this excellent first date option. There’s a lot of listening involved so the dialogue between you and your date will have to wait until the tour ends.

CARRIAGE RIDE

A carriage ride through New York City’s Central Park sets the standard for romantic dates. Luckily, carriage rides are in abundance in cities and towns throughout the Piedmont Triad. It can be a little bit awkward if you’ve never tried it before, but most women appreciate this romantic gesture.

WALK IN THE PARK

A daytime date has a number of benefits, including fresh air and extended time with your potential sweetheart. Getting back to nature is far better than sitting in some loud sports bar chomping down on hamburgers and French fries.

BICYCLING

An active date has a number of benefits.

‘

When a man and woman do something challenging together, it lends itself to a vast array of opportunities to see your potential mate at their best or worst. Cycling creates a sense of teamwork and mutual support. How your date responds to new challenges and spur-of-the-moment ideas speaks volumes about your compatibility.

PICNIC

One of the more traditional and laborintensive first dates is a picnic. If a man can pull it off, however, he is sure to make a lasting impression on his date. The most important element of a picnic date is selecting a good location. To reassure your date, make sure you hold your picnic in a public place that is relatively peaceful.

WINE TASTING

With the exponential growth of local vineyards, wine tasting is a realistic first date option for Piedmont Triad residents. A piece of friendly advice: Be careful how much you imbibe. First of all, you need to be the designated driver. If your date wishes to splurge, she should have that option.

HORSEBACK RIDING

One of the best active date options is horseback riding. A love of animals is a trait that many women seek out in a man. If you are a horse lover, or even if you’re not, there are a number of local stables that offer horseback riding and basic riding lessons at reasonable rates. An adventurous date is quite often the most successful date of all.
