GHASSAN’S 4O TH ANNIVERSARY

Ghassan’s has been the go-to restaurant for authentic Lebanese food in Greensboro for 40 years.

In celebration of their 40th anniversary, the family-owned restaurant will be having specials for their E-Club cus tomers, which any one can be a part of, all year long.

The exact first day of business was so long ago, the actual date is unknown, but the restaurant will host the birthday celebration in April.

Their award-winning subs will be on sale on that day for just $3 in celebration of the 40th year in business. If you’re planning to partake in the Customer Appreciation Birthday Celebration then General Man ager Ziad Fleihan suggests you arrive early.

“It’s huge, the line is out the door all day. It’s pretty fun,” said Lina Fleihan, the restaurant’s marketing manager. A second customer appreciation day will take place later in the year.

Ziad says consistency and quality has kept them in business for so long.

“I go back there and make the spices for the steak and chicken myself, we don’t cut any corners in the product we use,” Ziad said.

I decided to try the award-winning steak and cheese sub. An item that’s been on the menu since 1975, has to be delish, right? From the first bite it was obvious the steak and cheese sub was seasoned with fresh spices giving it a Mediterranean taste. For my side, I chose fries and to throw a little Middle Eastern culture in the mix, I went with the Lebanese salad. The fries were perfect and the feta cheese and homemade vinaigrette dressing in the Lebanese salad created a fresh, yet zesty taste.

“We use the same recipes my dad and his brother created in 1975,” said Ziad.

Ziad and Lina’s father, Khaled Fleihan, decided to open Ghassan’s only a few days after moving here from Lebanon.

They never thought the restaurant would expand and have multiple locations.

“My dad use to stay in the restaurant 24 hours a day everyday, so now they just feel so blessed,” Ziad said.

Ghassan’s has stuck to their original menu items, chicken and steak subs, since its opening. However, over time they have added new items. The latest additions to the menu are homemade hummus, Mediterranean pasta salad, and chicken and steak kabobs.

In addition to their new menu items, the family-owned restaurant now offers catering throughout the Greensboro area “For the most part it’s a lot of business offices, agencies and banks, but more people are starting to want to do parties at their house,” Lina said.

Over the past 40 years Greensboro had been the perfect fit for Ghassan’s.

“If it wasn’t for Greensboro, we wouldn’t exist,” Lina said. “They’ve held us up and kept us going.”
