Gibbs plans A Hundred Days of the Hundred celebration

The folks at Gibbs Hundred in Greensboro are so excited about the public response to their beer that they’ve planned A Hundred Days of the Hundred celebration to be held on Saturday, complete with food trucks, live music, and the tapping of a limited release Belgian Tripel. The event begins at noon.Since opening in the last quarter of 2014 the reaction to Gibbs Hundred beer has been encouraging, said Mark Gibb, who along with his wife Sasha opened the brewery and tap room at 117 West Lewis St. in Greensboro’s South End.”In the tap room we’ve had a great response from the public and everybody seems to like the beers,” Gibb said. “It’s been great and exceeded out expectations.”Gibbs Hundred brews three beers on a regular basis, a pale ale, a milk stout and an ESB or English Style Bitter.The pale ale, known as Blind Man’s Holiday or Greensboro Pale Ale, has really caused a buzz among beer drinkers. It’s strong hop aroma leaves no mistake that this is a beer to be reckoned with, but a surprisingly fresh finish isn’t overwhelming like many of the IPAs so popular in the craft beer movement. “We’ve been tickled pink (about the response),” Gibb said. “Folks like the other two beers as well and enjoy them but we certainly get a stronger reaction with that one. It’s outselling the others by about two to one.”The milk stout, known as Cherchez La Femme, and the Guilty Party ESB, are popular for their uniqueness and balance.”(The milk stout) is a dark beer so it’s got a lot of roasty and chocolate flavor in it that you get with those dark beers, but we balance it “¦ to give it a hint of sweetness so it doesn’t get to dry and bitter,” Gibb said. A Hundred Days of the Hundred will feature six area food trucks and live music by Jesse Stockton of Wilmington. Beer drinkers will revel in the release of the Waterloo Wheat, a limited edition Belgian Tripel with a twist.Gibb said they brewed the Waterloo Wheat with a traditional Trappist yeast and a Saison yeast, which adds a spicy character to the beer.Gibbs Hundred has established accounts with 25 Greensboro venues that sell the beer. A recent trip to Charlotte yielded eight new accounts in one day. Gibb said the beer is sold in Alamance County and they hope to expand into Winston-Salem soon.The much-anticipated Triad Collaboration Brew is going into barrels soon. The barrel-aged beer will be split into three parts and aged in rum, Heaven Hill, and red wine barrels.The release will be about 300 gallons and is scheduled for April to coincide with NC Craft Beer Month.
