Gina from WCWG

by Brian Clarey

At the party last week for the debut of new Triad network WCWG’s piece on the area’s annual college fest Get Down! Town, on-air personality Gina works the room in a sensible yet sexy polka-dot dress and a made-for-TV smile. She’s beaming, clasping hands making eye contact with the be-suited crowd in the upstairs loft at Natty Greene’s, and then the 30-minute piece on the street festival airs on one of the flat-screens in a corner of the room. Gina, new to the area and the network, soaks up the applause afterwards. “I found the job on the internet,” says the graduate of the University of Florida who sent in a couple of tapes and then flew in from Daytona Beach for the interview. “I am the ‘on-air personality’ and ‘station host,'” she says, using air quotes. “Calling me ‘the face’ makes me feel like I don’t have a job.” For this gig Gina will be hitting the streets to document some of the exciting things going on around town as well as taping bumpers and station promos and hosting movie nights. “If it’s fun stuff,” Gina says, “I’m there.”
