DJ handle: J. Overcash

What it means: Just my name shortened, nothing too crazy. Was part of Tons O’ Guns with darklove in the past. After we stopped DJing together I couldn’t figure out a new DJ name and since my last name is kind of unique (outside of certain parts of NC) I just went with it.

Real name: Jamie Overcash

What I play: House, bass music, hip hop, R&B. A little of everything, it just depends on the night and where I’m at.

Catch me at: Every Thursday at the Nightclub at Paolucci’s in Boone, spinning video. Every Saturday at Char Bar in Boone. First Fridays at Char also for my monthly EDM party called INVASION, you can check out photos from that at Upcoming shows: All of the above, and occasionally at Greene Street Club in Greensboro on Friday nights for FKT Fridays with darklove.

Got in the game: Started in 2004. Took a short break, got back into it heavily in 2007.

Why I do it: Always loved music, DJing was a way to share what I was into with other people.

Influences: Anyone who mixes house and other dance music with a hip-hop flair like Atrak, Craze, Shiftee.

Studio work: Constantly making edits to work into my sets, did a few remixes as Tons O’ Guns, and a few original Dubstep productions as J. Overcash. Going to start focusing more on the production side of things now since my home studio is finally setup.

Favorite technique: Just clean mixing and keeping the party going. I do like to work some wordplay into sets though, I’m sure 99 percent of people don’t catch it, but its fun for me.

Signature mix: I guess my last INVASION mix, you can check it out on my Soundcloud. This just reminds me that I need to make a new mixtape.

Favorite albums: Nas — Illmatic, Daft Punk — Homework, Jay Z — Reasonable Doubt, Mobb Deep — Infamous, Clipse — Lord Willin, Outkast — Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik

My gear: Technic 1210s, Rane ttm57sl mixer

I’d like to add: Shout out to darklove., Fyah Babylon, all the Permanent Vacation homies, INVASION party people and my girlfriend Brennon for not being too mad about my horrible sleep schedule on the weekends.
