There’s something so freeing about dancing. I’m talking about the letting-your-self-completely-go kind of dancing. Embarrassing dancing. Sweaty dancing. Spastic dancing “” whatever you’re feeling at the moment. This year, I hope every one of you lets loose and you get swept away in a beat and a step. Of course, if you’d like to hone those skills so you don’t look like you’re drowning, there are a few classes in the Triad that can help you do it.
First, let me just say that I love to dance. I have zero rhythm and I love to dance. Even back in those college clubbing days, I was the girl who danced for herself “” not to look sleazy, not to attract an on-looking cutie “” but simply for the pure love of letting myself go. Sometimes it wasn’t pretty “” but it sure as heck was fun.
But since I’m a tad older now, and I feel like my nightclub days are over, I’ve been looking for a way to continue that joy “” besides having private dance parties in my room. One studio in particular caught my eye: Artistic Motion in Greensboro.
The performing arts studio, which opened in 2000, offers recreational classes to both kids and adults.
“We offer classes in the typical dance studio areas: ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, lyrical and modern,” said Natalya Davison, Executive Director of Artistic Motion School of Arts in Greensboro. “But we have also expanded to include instruction in ballroom dancing, musical theatre, Zumba, martial arts, yoga, drama, piano and voice.”
You can sign up for a group class or schedule a private lesson for $50 an hour.

Of course, swing dancing is just as upbeat. A one-hour jitterbug lesson is given prior to each dance. Cost is $10 for non-members. No partner or experience is necessary.
OWN THE STREETS
A hip-hop class is definitely a great way to let loose and impress your friends. Artistic Motion offers a variety of classes depending on your skill level, including Beginning Kids (ages 7-12), Intermediate Kids, Beginning Adults (ages 13 and up), Intermediate/Advanced Adult, Adult and private lessons. The classes range in price from $248-$261 a semester or $50 per hour.
So it’ll be OK; just dance! !
