BY KAREN PHILLIPS

Seventeen-year-old Chandler Eggleston, a rising senior at Southwest Guilford High School, has been a gymnast at High Point Gymnastics Academy’  since he was 8 years old. Chandler made his second trip to the national Visa Championships this year, the first step in the selection process for the 2012 US Olympic team. He placed first on vault, third on floor and 11th allaround in the 16-18 age group. While still too young to be eligible for the next step, the Olympic trials, Chan dler continues to gain experience by competing at the national level against elite athletes. As he begins his search for higher education, Chandler will visit the University of Michigan, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Stanford University, with the likelihood of a full scholarship. He plans on continuing to train hard and enjoy his sport, and says he will “have to see how it goes” for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
