MORGAN HAKALA — WRITER

“In 10 th grade we had writing assignments each quarter, and I really enjoyed them so I decided to take creative writing classes,” says Morgan Hakala, a 2013 graduate of Northern Guilford High School and budding writer.

Not only has she received the $3,000 John Carlton Myatt Writing Scholarship from the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, she also writes for Teen Ink, a magazine by and for high school students. Her favorite piece: “One of my poems, ‘My Control,’ which was published in Teen Ink.”

In the fall she heads for UNC-Asheville, where she plans to study English and mass comunications. The poetry will have to wait.

“Writing is just a hobby,” she says.
