Strawberry red-wine brownies. Need I say more? Nikki Miller-Ka won First Place at the Dixie Crystals brownie contest in July with this mouth-watering dessert recipe, and now she’s headed to Las Vegas to compete in the World Food Championship. Miller-Ka, a food writer and chef who lives in Winston-Salem, is asking for community support so she can bring her A-game to the competition against culinary powerhouses and to help her put the “Win” back in “Winston-Salem.” Her victory isn’t a fluke — Miller-Ka went to culinary school and has an extensive background in food. While Dixie Crystals is paying for her airfare, hotel room and registration, she still needs community support. Her goal is to place in the Top 10, and one day host her own culinary TV show. Locals may recognize Mille-Ka from a myriad of food-related ventures over the years, including serving as the official food blogger for Fire in the Triad. Her writing about the cooking competition appeared in YES! Weekly.
