Ken pearce-Triad homebrew supply

Homebrewing is a family affair. At least, it can be. Ken Pearce, the owner and founder of Triad Homebrew Supply, was originally drawn to homebrewing by his father, but wasn’t personally invested until a chemical physics grad student at Ohio State University, when he saw a classified ad for a kit. He Pearce moved to Greensboro for a corporate job in 2003 — a miserable experience indeed — and launched Triad Homebrew Supply in 2004.

Now in his 10 th year with the business, he mostly sells supplies for making beer but also offers anything people would need to make wine or cheese. Pearce is able to work two days a week (leaving two days to his wife and the rest to employees), allowing him a significant amount of time to spend with his young daughter. Quality family time is the greatest perk of running a homebrew store, he says, but Pearce also draws satisfaction from helping people learn how to make good beer. One Saturday a month, he hosts a class for budding brewers for $25. The next one will be held on Nov. 9 and people can sign up online.
