Custom Jewelers, located at 2447 Battleground Ave. in Greensboro, is currently celebrating their 30 th year anniversary and owner Tony Pietrantozzi has a lot to be proud of.

The local business started when his father bought a ring making kit from the back of a hobbyist magazine.

“I remember when I was probably 12,” said Pietrantozzi. “The kit came in and we sat on the kitchen table and I read the instructions to him as he made his first ring.

He enjoyed it and he just started making rings ever since.”

Having taken ownership of the business started by his father, Pietrantozzi possesses many duties such as handling stock, helping customers, designing the jewelry and advertising.

Pietrantozzi finds the amount of duties to be the most difficult part of his career, but is rewarded by the close relationship with his customers. Just last month, his 17-year-old son suffered several strokes and had heart surgery.

“Customers have just been so supportive and sent me so much love and prayers,” said Pietrantozzi. “It just made me feel really good that they consider me a part of their family.”

As for a highlight of his career, Pietrantozzi helped a friend pick out the perfect diamond ring for his fiancé last year from the store. Being a part of special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, and other celebrations is a perk of the job that Pietrantozzi loves.

With most of their work being custom designs, every day is different in the store. Pietrantozzi even remembers their most unusual job back when his father had ownership. A customer came in and had them set a gallstone from his body into a ring.

“As soon as we open the doors, you never know what the day’s going to have, who’s coming in the door next, what they want, what they’re looking for,” Pietrantozzi says. !
