KATHARINE OSBORNE-ONE COOL KAT

Who says you can’t go home again?

Don’t tell Katharine “Kat” Osborne. More than a decade after leaving the Triad for college, this Burlington native has come home to lead the marketing and advertising efforts for YES! Weekly.

A graduate of Williams High School, Osborne attended Appalachian State University where she received a degree in graphic design. She’s worked with companies on graphics and ad sales in print media in the Boone area since 2005.

“I’ve always wanted to come back home and be in a position where I could use my experience and knowledge to help companies achieve their marketing goals,” Osborne said.

While in Boone, Osborne helped launch a print product with a company called High Country Press. In addition to the successful High Country Magazine, Osborne was involved with annual visitor’s guides and an entertainment magazine, Shout, which she said was a lot like YES! Weekly in that it covered nightlife and events, in addition to providing alternative views.

“We focused a lot on festivals and night life and on ‘around town’ information,” she said. “It was really cool.”

Charles Womack, publisher of YES!

Weekly, said Osborne’s energy has already made a big difference since she came to work in early May.

“We are all very happy to have Kat as part of the YES! Weekly staff,” Womack said. “The wealth of knowledge and experience that she brings to the table has already started a fire of excitement and drive in me and our sales team.”

Osborne said she is excited to get to work in the Triad and test her skills in such a large market.

“I’m thrilled to bring my experiences back home and to combine my ideas with the staff at YES! Weekly and to watch things grow,” Osborne said. “I’ve been in all sorts of media and I know what works and what doesn’t work. For your company, I will get to know you and what your goals are and then figure out where we fit in that equation. Print should always fit in the equation. Print is the baseline of all markets.” !
