Local Talent: Kelly Goohan

Because we love subtext here on Page Three, we decided to bring this week’s model, Kelly Goonan, to SRI Shoe Warehouse on High Point Road and surround her in Kenneth Coles, strappy things with heels and maybe something sensible. “I’m gonna make [Greensboro] a walkable community, so I’ll need lots of shoes,” she says. Kelly, 37, holds a bachelors from the State University of New York at Brockport in biology and exercise physiology and a masters in public health from the University of Rochester, her hometown. She’s been down South since ’97, brought here by a vision to promote health literacy and a desire to get away from upstate New York. These days she works at NC A&T University as public health grant administrator and also has a voice on the Guilford County Obesity Collaborative. And ironically, Kelly is self-conscious about her dancer’s feet, made strong by years of training and a short stint as a Greensboro Prowlers cheerleader in 2001. “I was 31,” she remembers, “the oldest chick on the squad. On my birthday they sang, ‘Happy birthday, dear Grandma.'”
