Mid-day shooting shatters suburban calm

Dozens of law enforcement officers responded to a midday shooting in Jamestown on Feb. 7 that left a sheriff’s deputy wounded and another victim in the hospital.

Donna Bentley Jones, 51, is charged with shooting her neighbor Joseph Adeloye in the upper left chest at around 11:45 a.m., according to a press release. Guilford County Sheriff’s deputies arrived four minutes after they received a 911 call and found Adeloye in his yard, said department spokesman Capt. David Powell.

Sgt. John Henderson was shot in the leg when he tried to help the victim.

Powell said Jones was firing the gun from inside her house and that she agreed to surrender to the sheriffs after a short standoff. Greensboro Police SWAT teams and NC Highway Patrol assisted the sheriff’s office. The law enforcement agencies taped off the cul-de-sac where the shooting occurred and directed traffic into the subdivision.
