The week of Thanksgiving just doesn’t have that much in the way of dance parties, but there is a lot going on at your local record stores as they prepare for Black Friday. The number one shopping day of the year offers discounts on everything, and that includes your favorite vinyl.

Underdog Records in Winston-Salem has been posting photos on its Facebook page all week with the latest updates of new spins. To boot, the store opens at 8 a.m. and is offering free hot dogs and beer starting at noon. Get in early for the best deals, and then stay for the beer and dogs while you shop for the latest Primus, Judas Priest, CHVRCHES and Imagine Dragon albums. And if that’s not enough, Asheville’s Aunt Sis, which features members from The Sweets and Petey, will perform in the store at 2 p.m.

Hippo Records in Greensboro has also been sharing photos from its cornucopia of Black Friday stock, which includes releases from Prince, Death Cab for Cutie, and Pete Rock, just to name a few.

The Black Lodge in Winston-Salem will continue its weekly Welcome to Wax night on the night before Thanksgiving – bring in your purchases from Reanimator Records, which is right around the corner, and give them a spin while you sip on a cocktail.

Winston-Salem’s Club Therapy continues its reign of the salsa scene on Wednesday nights with free dance lessons starting at 8:15 p.m. DJ Seven will be keeping things merengue on the decks. Therapy is also hosting a roast of Jim Cornette on Friday night – Cornette is one of professional wrestling’s biggest promoters and managers, so you might get to witness legendary wrestlers giving him the verbal suplex.

Limelight, one of Greensboro’s latest additions to the club and nightlife scene, is having a pre-Thanksgiving party benefitting the Guilford County Animal Shelter. Limelight is typically only open on Saturday’s, but will open its doors for special events. The benefit starts at 8 p.m. with music and the party starting around 10 p.m. It’s a given that this event is sponsored by Wild Turkey, because, well, Thanksgiving.

DJ84 will be spinning some vinyl on actual turntables – not those pesky CDJs – at Westerwood Tavern located at 508 Guilford Ave. in Greensboro on Saturday night. Gate City Get Down presents the night, and you might end up seeing some of the crew from the Dance From Above events because GCGD was also co-presenting those events in the Crown Room. !
