[PLAYBILL]

Theatre Alliance in Winston-Salem continues its production of Next to Normal this week through Sunday. The dramatic, but humorous musical follows the story of a suburban mother with bi-polar disorder and gives a unique perspective on what being normal really means.

New this week is a farce about golf, presented by Twin City Stage, which runs Friday through June 8. The Fox on the Fairway is a tribute to the great English farces of the 1930s and 1940s, and is set against the backdrop of an annual golf tournament between rival country clubs.

Then on Saturday, Broadway’s Best Theatre Company presents the first in its Visiting Artists Series, “The Great American Songbook,” featuring the groups Triad Harmony Express, Downtown Sound and Easy Livin’. The family-friendly production begins in a small Midwestern train station in the mid ‘30s and continues through a timeline of some of America’s favorite songs.

Saturday and Sunday, Hanesbrands Theatre presents SALUTE: A Tribute to Our Armed Forces, featuring three acts encompassing the great songs and dance styles of the 1940s, a heart felt tribute to the price of freedom, and an anthem style salute to our Armed Forces. Performances are at Owens Auditorium, Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst.

The concert features original choreography by Gary Taylor. If you can’t travel to Pinehurst for the production and don’t mind waiting a few extra days, Greensboro Ballet will be performing the three-act tribute as well next week, on June 6. See feature to left for more information.

Hanesbrands Theatre is also presenting a theatre production on the big screen this week. On Sunday, the theater will show National Theatre Live’s encore screening of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. The play features a 15-year-old boy who is brilliant, but ill equipped to interpret everyday life.

When he falls under suspicion of killing a neighbor’s dog, he records each fact about the event in the book he is writing to solve the mystery of the murder. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a frightening journey that upturns his world. !
