[PLAYBILL]

The holidays are here, which means many are off on a long-awaited vacation—and that includes local theater staff. As we take this time off to count all of our blessings and enjoy being with our families, we’ll have to rely on Lifetime specials for our heart-warming dramas. Theater productions are a little scant this week, but they’ll be back on stage for the New Year.

If it’s the kids who need some entertainment this season, then send them to Community Theatre of Greensboro’s winter break theater camps. The full-day camps consist of theater-related games and activities, including improv, storytelling and acting out scenes. The camps run Dec. 29-31, 8:30-5:30 p.m. at 520 S. Elm St. in Greensboro. The cost is $25 per day or $100 for all five days. A snack will be provided, but students will need to bring a lunch. For more information call 333-7470 or visit ctsog.org. Next week, Community Theatre of Greensboro will be holding auditions for A Raisin in the Sun Jan. 5 and 6 at CTG’s Starr Theatre. Participants do not need a prepared monologue but will instead read from the script. All roles are portrayed by black or bi-racial actors with the exception of Mr. Lindner, who is white. Performances are scehduled for Feb. 13-28.

Also kicking off in January are auditions for the Drama Center’s Playwrights’ Forum An Evening of Short Plays. Auditions for the neverbefore-performed works are Mon., Jan. 5 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. on the first floor of the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie St. All plays are by local playwrights. Parts available include a wide variety for 16 and up. Shows are Feb. 5-8 during the Greensboro Fringe Festival. For more information visit thedramacenter.com or call 373-2728.

Twin City Stage will be holding auditions as well, on Jan. 13 and 14 for its spring production of Mary Poppins at the Arts Council Theatre. There are roles available for 6 men and 8 women (ages 18-60) and 1 boy and 1 girl (ages 8-12). Actors are asked to prepare a song and bring along sheet music in the correct key. A cappella and CD sing-alongs are also allowed. !
