[PLAYBILL]

Friday is the opening night of Twin City Stage’s Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. The production will be coupled by a reception with wine, hors d’oeuvres and sweets.

Also this weekend, Artistic Motion School of Arts is hosting its spring show Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. Students will be performing from creative movement, ballet, tap, tumbling, jazz, contemporary, modern, hip hop and Salsa classes. Students from the piano and voice classes will also perform. The recitals are at the Greensboro Day School’s Sloan Theatre.

The school will also perform a fulllength production, Esmeralda, based on the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Saturday and Sunday with its two guest dancers from the Dominican Republic.

Auditions for the Centerstage Youth Performing Group are Sunday, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center. Contact Roz Fulton at RFulton@ctgso.org for more information.

Opening next Saturday is the Drama Center Children’s Theatre’s Winnie-the- Pooh Birthday Tail at the Greensboro Cultural Center. The family-friendly play will have your small ones laughing as Winnie and his friends help Eeyore find his tail and celebrate his birthday.

Rescheduled for Saturday is Theatre Alliance’s staged reading of My First Time, which is for mature audiences only. Unique to the reading are additional anonymous stories by some of the patrons of Theatre Alliance’s The Wedding Singer. The one-time performance is free. Donations at the door for Planned Parenthood are accepted.

In other news, Theatre Alliance has launched a $60,000 fundraising campaign named “Size Matters,” to renovate the theatre company’s performance space. In late August, the theatre will be temporarily shut down to reconfigure the space to increase seating capacity from 86 seats to 130, with improved handicapped seating capacity. The renovation design also addresses current code requirements: the addition of one handicapped bathroom, upgrade of the HVAC system, electrical work and plumbing.

Coming soon this June is Kernersville Little Theatre’s Pajama Game, a fun comedy about a union strike at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory. !
