[PLAYBILL]

Don’t forget that this Sunday is Valentine’s Day, and if you’re in a last-minute panic because February snuck around the corner, have no fear. There are a few shows performing around town that will make for a fun and romantic evening with your special someone, or even just for a good time with friends.

I, for one, will be celebrating Singles Awareness Day with a handful of good friends and a fun, but thought-provoking Neil Simon play, Proposals.

Thursday through Sunday, Twin City Stage is performing the romantic drama-comedy, in which nine characters attempt to sort out their tangled love in a Poconos cottage in the 1950s. Anyone attending the Saturday performance is invited to a pre-show Valentine’s Day Wine and Chocolates Reception, courtesy of Raffaldini Vineyards and Black Mountain Chocolates, which will begin at 7:15 pm.

Also in honor of the holiday, Theatre Alliance is presenting another fun, but thought-provoking production: I DO! I DO!. The musical, which runs Wednesday through Sunday, dives into relationship dynamics by following a couple from their wedding day to their mid-life crises and a full 50 years of marriage.

If you’re looking for a good laugh, and maybe a little nerd humor, then check out UNCG’s production of She Kills Monsters, running Thursday through next week, Feb. 21, at the Taylor Theatre. The comedy, which delves into the world of fantasy role-playing games, tells the story of a young woman who returns home after the death of her sister, only to find her late sister’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook. She soon loses herself in an action-packed adventure, filled with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres and 90s pop culture.

Next week, Piedmont Players Youth Theatre presents Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew at The Norvell Theater, 135 E. Fisher St., Salisbury. Performances run Feb. 19-20 and 26-27.

Also coming up is Triad Stage’s production of Radiunt Abundunt, by Preston Lane and Laurelyn Dossett, which will run Feb. 21-March 13. If the play is anything like the duo’s Beautiful Star: An Appalachian Nativity, and Snow Queen, then we’re sure to be blown away by its beauty. !
