The big news this week is the announcement of Triad Stage and Theatre Alliance’s upcoming season beginning in September.
Triad Stage’s 16 th season will include some exciting productions for both Greensboro and Winston- Salem, including Arms and the Man, a romantic comedy, to kick off the fall season in Greensboro, and the return of The Mystery of Irma Vep at the Hanesbands Theatre in October. Triad Stage’s season contains a few returning favorites, like Beautiful Star: An Appalachian Nativity, and, of course, a thoughtful list of dramas sure to make you think.
I’m especially interested to see And So We Walked: An Artist’s Journey Along The Trail of Tears, which will lead the theatre into spring. Another point of interest is another Preston Lane original: Actions and Objectives, which follows up on the Zebulon Zebras from Common Enemy, but instead focuses on the town’s history, from Reconstruction to Black Lives Matter.
Theatre Alliance’s new season, Ablaze!, will feature the exciting musical Chicago to kick-off its mainstage productions, followed by Slasher for a fun Halloween treat in October. The “horrifying comedy” features a young actress cast as “the last girl,” and her feminist mother who will do anything to stop the film. Overall, Theatre Alliance’s new upcoming season contains a long list of comedies and musicals, so it’ll be the place to go for a good laugh or a fun tune.
Greensboro City Arts Center will present a special concert in honor of the Fourth of July. The MUSEP Concert is a pop concert, combined with a fireworks display. Performing will be Philharmonia of Greensboro, presenting classical and pop songs, at 8:30 pm in the parking lot loc ated at Market Street between Church and Davie streets.
Coming soon, beginning July 13, is Open Space Café Theatre’s 25 th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a funny take on a group of awkward kids showing off their linguistic skills.
Also later this month, Theatre Alliance presents Cheatin’, a comedy set in a small town in Texas, where gossip is the community’s favorite pastime. Three couples and their rumors of infidelity become the talk of the town in this fast-paced farce. Productions are July 22-31. !
