[PLAYBILL]

Community Theatre of Greensboro is continuing its run of James and the Giant Peach, Jr. Friday through Sunday.

In other news, if you’re looking for a fun way to stay fit, try out CTG’s free fitness class, which runs each Monday and Wednesday this week through July 27. Participants will dance to Shaun T’s CIZE dance video.

New this week is Theatre Alliance’s farcical comedy, Cheatin’, a fastpaced play set in a small gossipridden town in Texas. Productions are Friday through July 31. Next up for the theatre is its August production of Boeing Boeing, an adaptation based on a 1960s French farce. The comedy features a playboy and his three beautiful flight attendant fiancés, which he manages to juggle until a scheduling conflict has them all at his apartment in Paris—at the same time.

Also new this week is St. Thomas Players’ production of August: Osage County at Lee Street theatre, Salisbury, Thursday through Sunday and July 28-30.

The new play, which exposes the dark side of the Midwestern American family, centers on one Oklahoman family that unexpectedly reunites after the father disappears. But the reunion ignites a flurry of revealed, unsettling secrets.

Coming soon, for one day only on July 30, is The Fox & Beggar Theatre’s original production of Tarocco: A Soldier’s Tale, which will be premiering in the Triad at UNC School of the Arts.

Also on July 30 is a very special production presented in association with N.C. A&T State University. In collaboration with Touring Theatre of North Carolina and The League of Women Voters of the Piedmont Triad, Mt. Olivet A.M.E. Zion Church is presenting a free performance of The Life and Times of Fannie Lou Hamer, which details the tribulations of Fannie Lou, a Mississippi sharecropper and one of the first black citizens to attempt to register to vote, only to be denied due to a failed literary test. The event, which includes free food and a 40-minute performance, will begin at 3 p.m. The League of Women Voters will be on-site before and after to register voters. The event will take place at 2123 McConnell Road. !
