Theatre Alliance continues its farce, Cheatin,’ a fast-paced comedy set in a small town in Texas, where gossip is the main form of entertainment. Productions are this week through Sunday. Next up for the theatre is its August production of Boeing Boeing, a comedy about a playboy who has trouble juggling three beautiful flight attendant fiancés.

Thursday through Saturday, The Drama Center of City Arts, in conjunction with Guilford County Schools, performs the Shakespeare classic King Henry IV part 1, in which rebel forces in 15 th century England plot to overthrow the king and in turn cause his son, Prince Harry, to rise to his birth-given responsibilities. All performances will be held at Gateway Gardens, 2924 E. Gate City Blvd.

Performances are outdoors so bring blankets or lawn chairs. Admission is free. Should it rain, the scheduled performances will be held at the Stephen Hyers Theatre on Thursday and Friday, and at the Caldcleugh Multicultural Center Street on Saturday.

This Saturday, for one day only, UNC School of the Arts is hosting a cirqueinspired show by The Fox & Beggar Theatre, from Asheville. The original production of Tarocco: A Soldier’s Tale includes circus acts, classical ballet, animated projections and more. The mixed-media story centers on a WWI soldier who tells stories to pass the time trapped behind enemy lines.

Another show inspired by historical accounts is The Life and Times of Fannie Lou Hamer, which touches on more recent history this Saturday. The Saturday only performance is presented by Mt. Olivet A.M.E. Zion Church in collaboration with Touring Theatre of North Carolina and The League of Women Voters of the Piedmont Triad. The free performance tells of the tribulations of Fannie Lou, a Mississippi sharecropper and one of the first black persons to attempt to register to vote, only to be denied due to a failed literary test. The event, which includes free food and a 40-minute performance, will begin at 3 p.m. The League of Women Voters will be on-site before and after to register voters, as well. The event will take place at 2123 McConnell Road. !
