New this Thursday is a soulful performance by three-time Grammy award-winning artist Jill Scott, who will be performing at the Greensboro Coliseum. Scott will be performing songs from her Billboard number-one charting album, Woman, which includes the hit single “Fools Gold.” In addition to her songs and poetry, Scott is also known for her role in Steel Magnolias.

This weekend through August 28, Theatre Alliance presents its comedy Boeing, Boeing, a chaotic farce about a man who has three beautiful fiancées, one Italian, one German and one American, and each is an airline hostess with frequent “layovers.” He keeps “one up, one down, and one pending” until unexpected schedule changes bring all three to his Paris home at the same time.

Michael Ackerman appears as Robert, a friend to the philanderer who happens to visit the weekend of the scheduling snafu. “It’s a lot of fun, but also nerve-wracking,” Ackerman said. “Farce is serious business. Things have got to appear to be wildly out of control while, at the same time, the cast is working together in perfect sync. It’s like dancing on a tightrope between order and chaos.” Ackerman himself has been known to be a playboy or two on stage, and audiences might recognize him from his reverse strip-tease in Twin City Stage’s production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

Next week, David Liebe Hart presents an interesting multimedia comedy, which fuses music, puppetry and video. The musician, street performer, actor and puppeteer is best known for his voice work in Adult Swim’s Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! In his hilarious “spectacular,” Hart will be backed by musician Jonah “Th’ Mole” Mociun. The one-time-only show on August 25 is free and will be at Common Grounds on Elam Avenue.

Coming soon for Labor Day is the stand-up comedy show “Labor Day Comedy Explosion with Sheryl Underwood & Friends” on September 2 at the Carolina Theatre.
