Welcome to this week’s YES! Weekly Pop Quiz where we ask elected officials about their jobs. This week, we direct questions to candidates for Greensboro City Council about the Sept. 20 council meeting. The rules are simple: No research, no callbacks.

1. What is the date to which city council voted to extend its solid waste contract with Republic Services? 2. What two bus services did council vote to eliminate? 3. What item was pulled from the agenda?

Tony Collins, District 4 candidate 1. I believe it’s Dec. 31. [ ] 2. The Starmount and Irving Park routes. [ -] 3. I assume that it was the vote on the contract with Gate City Waste Services. [ ]

Nancy Hoffmann, District 4 candidate 1. The contract runs through the end of the year. [ ] 2. They eliminated the bus that comes from the Old Irving Park area to Starmount.

I can’t think of the other one. [ -] 3. Obviously, the vote on the Gate City contract. [ ]

Jorge Cornell, District 5 candidate 1. I really don’t know. My guess is that it’s going to get extended to before November. [X] 2. The piece that I seen on TV – I know they were talking about West Market Street, they were talking about those buses were crowded. They were talking about High Point Road was crowded. [X] 3. Gate City Waste Management was pulled out — they were supposed to vote on if they were going to go ahead with the contract. [ ]
