With all this talk about fast-food chicken and homosexuality, it’s the perfect time to announce that Zaxby’s — Little Richard’s chicken chain of choice — will be opening a second High Point location at 1827 N. Main St. There’s a great “special sauce” joke in there somewhere, but I’m not gonna be the one to make it.

On Wednesday, the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market holds a demo with Angie Kenny of gluten-free wonders Zen Cat Bakery beginning at 9 a.m.

On Friday, Greensboro’s Whole Foods Market holds a swine-themed event, Hooray For Bacon!, from 4-6 p.m. featuring all things pork-belly.

On Saturday, the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market operates under the theme Preserving the Harvest. From the website: “Come learn from vendors and supporters of the market including some Board members how to preserve the season’s bounty — through pickling, drying, canning, freezing. We will provide recipes and some show and tell.” Word on the street is that the Seersucker Chef’s mom will be there selling the best bloody mary mix you ever tasted.

The Cobblestone Farmers Market at Old Salem will be featuring watermelons, cantaloupes, squash blossoms and peppers from Harmony Ridge Farms; kung pao, serrano, mole and jalapeño peppers from Shore Farms; garlic from Plum Granny Farm; glutenfree breads and granola from Three Sisters Artisan Bakery; local raspberry sorbet from Blue Ridge Ice Creams; Crest Haven peach pop-tarts with hibiscus flower glaze and vegan fig and pomegranate molasses tartlets from Yay Snacks Bakery; and tuberoses from Sugar Creek Farm, along with the usual items.

And Fatz Café in Greensboro holds a pancake breakfast at 7:30 a.m. to benefit Girls, Inc of Guilford County, which is definitely not a strip club.

Also on Saturday, Twin City Taps will be held in the Ziggy’s Parking lot in Winston-Salem from noon-6 p.m., featuring fine North Carolina craft beer, food and live music. Find out more at

Room for one more? Wendy’s restaurants in Japan now offer a caviar and lobster sandwich, and a lobsterbeef surf-and-turf burger to go along with its foie gras burger with truffles, which has been on the menu for a year.
