For all you absent-minded folks out there, you better not forget what this weekend is or you’ll be sorry. Valentine’s Day is upon us and if you’re looking for some place special to go, Darryl’s Wood Fired Grill is having a special Valentine’s Dinner for 2 promotion. The deal runs Thursday through Sunday, Feb. 16 and has two features.

Feature #1 includes a certified Angus beef New York strip with a grilled shrimp skewer and two sides for $25.99 and Feature #2 has a salmon dinner with a grilled shrimp skewer and two sides for $19.99. If you and your special person order two of the features, you can share a slice of strawberry cheesecake at no charge.

Our local breweries, Foothills Brewing in Winston-Salem and Natty Greene’s in Greensboro are doing their things in a big way this week.

Foothills has launched the 2014 batch of Foothills’ Sexual Chocolate imperial stout. People came in droves to grab a 22-oz bottle at the pre-release party on Jan 31.

Come on by Foothills and grab a pint of the award-winning nectar and while you’re there, say hello to Jamie. You’ll also need to pick up one or two of the new collector’s items “fancy pants” Sexual Chocolate glasses for just $12.

Natty Greene’s is kicking off “Tasty Thursday.” Every Thursday, Uncle Mike will unveil a specialty brew. Each Thursday, Natty’s will have approximately 80 pints of a spectacular infusion and it will only be $4 per pint!

Every third Thursday, there will be live music starting at 10 p.m. The beer lineup includes Smoky Mtn. Porter with Carolina Reaper peppers on Feb. 13, Hessian with raspberries on Feb. 20, and oatmeal stout with cocoa nibs and peppermint on Feb. 27.

The Sweet Shop Homemade Pound Cakes by Margaret Elaine in Greensboro has opened Margaret Elaine’s Wine Loft on the second floor of the bakery. The sweet shop, which offers more than 300 homemade pound cake selections, celebrates its third anniversary Friday.

It may still be a little cold outside, but it’s never too cold for some sweet Italian ice. Rita’s Italian Ice, located in Lawndale Crossing Shopping Center in Greensboro, has reopened. Rita’s offers custard, Italian ice, gelati and frozen drinks.

Greensboro’s super yummy Cherry Pit Cafe and Pie Shop and Cherry Pit Express are celebrating National Pie Month during February by offering all whole pies for $7.99.

BS Sauce founders Bill Staley and Walt York are having a tasting of their cooking sauce, mustard, marinade and two salad dressings on Saturday at Town and Country Meat and Produce Market in Greensboro. !
