I was out and about on Trade Street in Winston-Salem the other day and popped into one of my favorite eating spots, Finnigan’s Wake. Opie and his crew have got it down in their 620 North location and it’s nearly impossible for me to go more than a few weeks without my Granny Smith Chicken Sandwich. The thing is amazing and features a giant grilled chicken breast topped with granny smith apple slices, melted provolone, lettuce, tomato and honey mustard on a toasted Kaiser roll.

Foothills Brewing has also got it going on as any respectable beer drinker would know since their award-winning Sexual Chocolate has hit the scene again this year. Pretty much anything on the Foothills Brewing menu is a slight bit more delicious when you pair it with the sweet, dark brew. Thursday is Trivia Night so study up and go. On Friday there is a Bourban Barrel Stout release. The band Live Size plays on Saturday.

One of, if not, THE best burger joint in town, Big Burger Spot will be opening a second location in April. The sister location will be off Guilford College Road in the Gate City Shopping Center, located at 510 Nicholas Rd. This is off Guilford College Road at Hornaday Road in Greensboro. This is great news for me as it’s just a few miles down the road from the YES! Weekly offices.

The new Big Burger Spot will offer new smoked options like pork barbecue and beef brisket as well as an expanded burger menu, gourmet salads and some vegetarian options. The current location is 3750-A Battleground Ave., Greensboro.

I stopped by The Dog House in High Point last week for a slamming great lunch. I was a bit hungry, so I went for the two-fer: hotdog AND a hamburger. The Slaw Dog was great, as usual, and the cheeseburger came with lettuce, sweet pickles, ketchup and mayo.

Fincastle’s Diner has kicked off their seventh annual “Throw Me Somethin’ Mister” Mardi Gras Menu and will keep the spices flowing through March 4.

The menu is timed with Mardi Gras season and features several New Orleansinspired goodies such as gumbo, etouffee, jambalaya, po’ boys and more.

Fincastle’s is open 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Fincastle’s is located at 215 S. Elm St., Greensboro.

In National news, Taco Bell is getting ready to roll out mobile ordering nationwide later this year. The California-based chain has developed an app that will allow guest to order ahead using smartphones. Now that’s making fast-food even faster. !
