DJ handle: Stoutzy Boy How I got it: My boy Johnny D came up with it. Real name: Mike Stoutz What I play: I’m all over the place, but mostly hip hop, Top 40 and rock. Catch me at: The Green Burro Upcoming shows: The Green Burro every Friday, Retro Thursdays at Orion’s starting in August Got in the game: Three years ago Why I do it: I did a wedding for fun with some borrowed gear and I had a bunch of ideas music-wise. So afterwards I got my own gear and now here I am. Influences: Jazzy Jeff, DJ AM, the X-Ecutioners, Roc Raida, Kid Capri and DJ Spanky First professional gig: Breakers Pool Hall Studio work: Just some 10- to 20-minute mixes here and there. Favorite techniques: Fades, beat mixing, sampling and loops. Signature mix: My “Stoutzy Mix.” It was the first mix I did I was using Xponent with Torq three years ago. I learned a ton while making it and even more from other DJs who critiqued it for me. I still have people ask for copies of it though, so I suppose it can’t be that bad. Personal play list: Funk and hip hop mostly. Favorite albums: Nasa — Spirit of Apollo, Robert Randolph — Unclassified, BDP — Criminal Minded My gear: Two Technics 1200mk5 turntables, Ortofon Cartridges, Numark X9 mixer, Dell Inspiron laptop, Serato and JBL speakers Best thing about the Triad: The diverse crowds are great. No matter what I play, it always works well. Website: I’d like to add: Thanks goes out to: DVDJ Kingpin, DJ Royale and Jeff Markham for all the knowledge and advice; Peck, Johnny D, Matty, Jake and the fam for helping lug all that gear around; MPC Stuff and Sean Larkin Design for sponsoring and creating my logos and flyers.
