Salute! NC Wine Festival CelebrateS 5th Year
with Food, Wine & Music In Downtown Setting
The fifth annual Salute!
The North Carolina Wine Celebration, presented by BB&T, will be held on Saturday, May 22 along Fourth Street in Downtown Winston-Salem. Over 30 North Carolina wineries arde here showcasing their products, offering wine for sampling and purchase. Last year’s festival drew more than 7,000 attendees from across the state and the Southeast region, and was selected as a Top 20 Events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society.
Salute runs until 6 pm in the heart of downtown. Live entertainment during the festival will be provided by Sound Express, featuring beach and soul favorites; and West End Mambo, offering a Latino- soul fusion to warm the afternoon. Festival organizers also announced the Salute AfterParty! scheduled from 6pm-10pm immediately following the festival. The AfterParty will feature free admission, music by Absolute 80s playing a popular mix of ’80s hits, and a cash bar with a selection of Foothills-brewed beers and wines.
This year’s Salute has increased focus on the important relationship between food and wine at the festival’s North Carolina Food & Wine University, featuring cooking demonstrations with wine pairings every 45 minutes throughout the day. With food editor Michael Hastings filling the master of ceremonies roll, each of the five sessions features a local chef paired with two NC wineries that are attending Salute! In addition, Fourth Street’s popular restaurants with sidewalk dining will also be open and in full swing for festival patrons to enjoy. On May 21, the Friday evening prior to the festival, several downtown restaurants participated in Salute Winemaker Dinners, where chefs collaborated with winemakers to create one-of-a-kind memorable meals. A complete listing of Winemaker Dinners may be found at www.salutencwine.com.
Guests will be well taken care of at the Twin City Quarter (Marriott & Embassy Suites). There will be no shortage of activities for patrons to take advantage of, including the winemaker dinners, the Salute! Wine Festival, the Salute! After Party, Mary Wilson of the Supremes at the Stevens Center, and a special wine documentary at a/perture Cinema.
Salute! The North Carolina Wine Celebration has become the premier urban festival in the state that exclusively features North Carolina wine. The Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership has produced the festival for four years running in order to meet several objectives, including: to provide entertainment options for visitors in the downtown core; to establish downtown Winston-Salem as the “hub” of the Yadkin Valley Wine region for leisure travelers; and to place increased focus on the burgeoning North Carolina wine industry.
