On your mark. Get set. Go!With school almost out and summer heading towards us fast, one of Greensboro’s best traditions continues tomorrow night and swimmers from all over the city are ready to race. For a long time, Greensboro has had an outstanding summer swim team program that promotes healthy competition and camaraderie for young people. It is organized and operated by a not for profit called the Community Swim Association (CSA). The organization is made up of more than 20 swim teams and according to the CSA website, over 2,000 swimmers ranging between the ages of 5 to 18 participate. The teams that participate come from community pools like Green Valley, The Elks Lodge and the Greensboro Country Club. Every club operates their own swim teams by providing coaches, practices and volunteers for each swim meet. For the next five weeks, teams will compete against each other all over the city and the season will end with a three-day City Swimming Championship that is hosted at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. One of the biggest parts of the tradition is the parade of teams and costumes during the final day of the City Swim Meet.Last season, The Green Valley Gators came out of nowhere to take first place in the three day event. It won’t be long before a new team is crowned because the race for the championship is upon us. The season is truly one of the things Greensboro does right. The schedule for opening night (Tuesday, June 9) is below.
