The new Xbox 720 is expected to launch this year. The PS4 is also coming out this year, with specs very similar to the Xbox. I guess gamers will have to decide which console will be their Mecca. Rumor has it that Apple has partnered with Intel to create an iOS watch, or iWatch, that would be bluetooth enabled and have a 1.5-inch OLED screen. I’m not sure what the function or pur pose of this will be, but since it’s Apple, it’ll be sleek, it’ll be revolutionary and it’ll only cost one of your paychecks. And the Google Glasses, currently known as Project Glass, are these really futuristic looking specs with internet access at your immediate, eye-level disposal.

This year seems to be the year for sequels. Remember Die Hard? How about Die Hard 4? Well, Die Hard 5 will be coming out this year, for all you loyal fans out there. And how about The Hangover? I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to anyone who didn’t truly love the first one. However, The Hangover 2 got mixed reviews, even though I was still thoroughly entertained throughout. But what will The Hangover 3 bring? More drunken debauchery? Yes, please. But the one I’m really looking forward to is Anchorman 2. I love lamp.

So you remember Hale-Bopp and Halley’s Comet? Well apparently there’s going to be a comet, Ison, coming around November that, if it doesn’t melt or dissipate beforehand, could be brighter than the moon and visible for up to three months. And speaking about space, supposedly 2013 is the year that scientists find Earth’s alien twin. There have been many outlying planets that have similar qualities to ours, but not enough to create a similar environment; however, many scientists say 2013 will be the year. Oh, and the Mars Curiosity Rover is predicted to find evidence of life on Mars at some point next year. Lucky 13, huh?

Have you ever been to Six Flags Great Adventure? It’s awesome. I used to go every summer with my dad. This year they’re building Full Throttle: the world’s tallest and fastest-looping roller coaster. Cedar Point in Ohio is also working on a new coaster, the Gate Keeper, which will be the fifth wing coaster in the world. It will also be the longest and have the highest drop.

The US Postal Service has decided to raise postage by 1 cent on Jan. 27 this year, so stock up on forever stamps from Costco. On a brighter note, they have also developed an international forever stamp which will cost $1.10, but you can send cards or letter to anyone, anywhere in the world, for a flat rate. It’s about time.

The organic-and-local food train came through full speed in 2012 and lots of people got on board. This year, the focus is predicted to be on waste reduction and food transparency. People are not only interested in making sure they buy fresh food; they want to know how their food is made and what ingredients go into it. People may also be cooking more for themselves, partly to control what they’re eating, but also to reduce waste. The top five ingredients consumers don’t want in 2013 are high-fructose cornsyrup, GMOs, aspartame and other artificial sweeteners, artificial dyes and trans-fats from partially hydrogenated oils.

Small, fuel-efficient cars were definitely in vogue in 2012, and this year we’ll be seeing that even more. However, people are looking for style too. There’s a new Audi Q5 hybrid if you’re looking for an SUV, or if you want a fully electric car, there’s the new Tesla Roadster. There are also plenty of fuel-efficient cars that aren’t hybrid or electric, like the Dodge Dart Aero. The Hyundai Veloster Turbo will be available too, with almost equal gas mileage to the original, but with a much-needed boost of energy. I have a 2012 Veloster, so if you’re behind me at a red light, I apologize in advance.

I usually wear what’s comfortable and what I define as “cute.” In hopes of keeping up, educating myself on the spring styles before it’s spring might be a wise idea this year. Bermuda shorts are in, which is good because I think they were in last year — or at least I wore them last year. Black and white pieces are also in, as are bold stripes. Throwback: statement sunglasses. Be sure to grab a bold, gaudy pair of bright blue sunglasses to finish your look. Think vintage and retro. The bolder, the better, they said. And flats or low-heeled shoes are in, which is good, because I haven’t been able to walk in heels in like 10 years.

President Barack Obama said he does not believe putting armed guards at every school in the country would be the best response to what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary, and he wants to pass gun violence legislation supporting increased background checks, and banning assault weapons and high-capacity bullet magazines. Obama also said deficit reduction and immigration reform are top priorities for this year.

Don’t skip your family vacation this year. Disney World is a great place to visit and everyone loves to go, but there are tons of other special, kid-friendly hot spots. Go to the San Diego Zoo for more than 4,000 rare and endangered animals; visit Yellowstone National Park and see Old Faithful; take a walk by the beautiful, immense Niagara Falls; and everyone has to see the Grand Canyon at some point. One of my gymnasts sent me a photo of herself doing a handstand with the vastness of the canyon as her backdrop — you can’t beat that memory.
