Breakfast, lunch and happiness
We live in a country that revolves around high speed, new trends and fast pace. We get so caught up in what’s next that we sometimes forget to appreciate what’s already here. It’s important to slow down once in a while and appreciate the classic, simple things that make you happy.
Eating breakfast for lunch makes me happy. Being in a cozy atmosphere makes me happy. Participating in community events makes me happy. Over the weekend, I found a place that combines all of the simple things that make me happy.
Tom’s Place in High Point makes me happy.
It is a classic diner complete with a friendly staff that makes everyone feel like they’re part of the family. Tom Giannopoulos and his wife opened the diner in 1987, and his son Chris has been running the show since they retired in 2006. To keep a restaurant open and relevant for 26-years means that the people there must be doing something right. Tom’s Place does everything right.
Not only do they offer scrumptious food, but they take the time to interact with their visitors. Chris Giannopoulos can be seen going in and out of the dining area, personally checking on guests and even sitting down to chat with the regulars. Giannopoulos knows how important it is to be involved.
“We are pretty involved in the community,” Giannopoulos said. “Every year, we take part in an event called ‘Dine-Out Day,’ and we are also active with the Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Club, and we participate in a special Christmas event.”
Tom’s Place is open until 3PM during the weekdays and until 2PM on the weekends. They offer daily specials, and the welcoming atmosphere makes it the ideal place for breakfast with family or lunch with friends. This weekend, I chose breakfast with family.
Because it is such a classic establishment, I opted for a classic kind of breakfast.
It was 1 in the afternoon, but is there ever a wrong time to eat an omelet and grits? No. The serving size was generous, the price was affordable and the taste was delicious. My mother got the pancakes topped with strawberries and dusted with powdered sugar. I was jealous. My brother also opted to get breakfast, and he chose the fried chicken biscuit.
“This is so good,” Jeremy said with his mouth full.
My dad, never one to follow the crowd, chose to get lunch. He ordered the Spicy Chicken Breast over Rice, and he was impressed.
“It’s got just enough spice. Very good,” he said.
Tom’s Place has quite an extensive menu.
They have everything from breakfast favorites like French toast and eggs benedict to lunch items like burgers and wraps. They even serve freshly baked deserts including the American classic, apple pie!
Tom’s Place is a true gem in High Point, and it gives its customers more than just a variety of tasty dishes. It serves more than just breakfast and lunch. Tom’s Place serves a purpose. As you look around the diner, you see people enjoying themselves. It is the perfect place to take a break from the high speed world and remind yourself that sometimes it’s the little things that make you happiest. !
