[TRIAD DJ PROFILE]
DJ handle: DJ Lil Vegas
What it means: From my father, DJ Vegas Al
Real name: Allen Christian, Jr.
What I play: Hip hop, R&B, old school (’70s-’90s) Baltimore and Jersey club, Top 40 and pop, dubstep and house.
Catch me at: On the radio and all over North Carolina!
Radio work: 90.1 WNAA FM (Fridays 10 p.m.-midnight) and 102 JAMZ (part time)
Got in the game: When I was 3 years old, when my father had a turntable that wasn’t working anymore. I asked him if could have it and he agreed. And now I’m here!
Why you became a DJ: I love music and to be fascinated by my father. He was always DJing around me when I was a baby. And I get my love of music from my mother.
Influences as a DJ: What influences me mostly, is the crowd’s reaction and the radio listeners. Who influences me, my family and friends (great support), DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jam Master Jay, Roc Raida, DJ Precision and alot of local area DJs: Jimmy Jam, Precise, J Flex, MC, Polo, Ern, Paradime, Deron Juan, Diesel, Horse Raney and many more.
First pro gig: A wedding reception my father was doing. He noticed that I was just sitting there watching him, and he let me finish out the last 30 minutes.
Studio work: I’m currently working on an independent album. I’m also an aspiring songwriter and music producer.
Favorite technique: I really enjoy live remixing and scratching.
Signature mix: I recently performed a live remix on air that consisted of Trinidad James and C-Murder. For my first time pulling that mix off on air, and getting such a great response, made me feel accomplished.
Best record I own: My Serato record(s). A lot of people think since I’m a “young” DJ, I don’t know I was like to carry around four or five crates of records to a party. So for me to own a handle full of Serato Vinyl, is the best record(s) I own.
Favorite new music: I’m starting to be more and more of a dubstep/trap fan. Also I love new west coast hype/ club records.
My gear: Two Technic 1200 MKII turntables, Rane 57 or 62z, Macbook Pro., two Pioneer CDJs and a Pioneer DDJSX (Light Gigs)
