The Charlotte Coliseum
The CharlotteColiseum first opened in 1988 as one of the largest arenas in thenation. It remains Charlotte’s largest entertainment venue seating24,000 spectators for concerts and high-profile athletic events. TheColiseum pulls fans from across the country to see stars of the sportsworld, including teams from the NBA, NCAA, and the WNBA. It has hostedthe NBA All-Star game, the NCAA Men’s Final Four, the NCAA Women’sFinal Four and several ACC basketball tournaments. The CharlotteColiseum has attracted such major entertainment figures as U2, GarthBrooks, Eric Clapton, the Grateful Dead and Janet Jackson. Other majorevents have included Jubilate, one of the premiere Christian New Year’sEve celebrations in the United States, a visit by Mother Teresa, theRingling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus and Walt Disney’sWorld on Ice.
