US House District 12, general election
Democrat Mel Watt has represented North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District, which snakes along the Interstate 85 corridor from Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem down to Charlotte, since 1992. Greg Dority defeated Scott Cumbie in the June 22 runoff to earn the quixotic prospect of challenging Watt in this heavily Democratic district.
