Undocumented youth protest immigration bills

More than 100 young immigrants and supporters, including members of the NC Dream Team, marched and rallied in downtown Greensboro on March 19 as part of “Coming Out of the Shadows Week.” Undocumented students from across the state walked up the steps at Governmental Plaza holding signs that read, “Undocumented, unafraid and unashamed,” according to a press release. The students spoke out about anti-immigration bills currently being considered by the NC General Assembly as well as law enforcement initiatives such as the 287(g) program and Secure Communities, which they claim are used to deport non-criminal immigrants. Students vowed to continue to speak out until state and federal governments institute a consistent and fair immigration policy. (photo by Alexandria Jones)
